Become a Qualified Rail Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser
Specialist RID DGSA training for rail freight and rail-linked dangerous goods operations
Carrying dangerous goods by rail brings its own distinct responsibilities. From wagon selection, tank-wagon requirements and placarding to shunting, marshalling, segregation, documentation and terminal operations, rail transport requires a specialist understanding of the RID Regulations.
Roadsafe Europe’s RID DGSA training is designed to help you pass the Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser examination—and, more importantly, become a competent, confident adviser for rail dangerous goods operations.
Whether you are qualifying for the first time, adding rail to an existing DGSA certificate, or preparing for your five-year renewal examinations, our practical, classroom-based programme gives you the knowledge and confidence to interpret RID and apply it in the real world.
Pass the examination | Understand RID | Advise with confidence
Training that goes beyond exam preparation
Passing the DGSA examination is only the first step. A competent Rail DGSA needs to be able to navigate the RID Regulations, understand how duties apply across the rail transport chain and advise management on practical compliance.
Our objective is not simply to prepare you for an examination. We want you to leave the course able to use the Regulations confidently, identify compliance risks and give practical, well-informed advice.
The course combines:
What makes RID different?
RID applies to the international carriage of dangerous goods by rail. A qualified Rail DGSA needs to understand the requirements that apply not only to the goods themselves, but also to wagons, tanks, containers, rail terminals and the operational controls used throughout a rail journey.
Your training will cover the RID examination syllabus, including:
Built around the RID examination—and real rail operations
The Rail DGSA examination includes a case study and written questions. Candidates need more than a general awareness of dangerous goods rules; they need to understand how RID requirements apply to realistic rail scenarios.
We turn a substantial and technical set of Regulations into a structured, manageable learning programme. You will learn how to find the relevant provisions, interpret their requirements and apply them to examination questions and practical situations involving wagons, tanks, containers, loading, unloading, marshalling and rail freight operations.
The course concludes with mock examinations that are marked and critiqued by your tutor. You will also receive further practice questions to complete before your examination, with the opportunity for tutor feedback.
As questions may include explosives and radioactive materials, these subjects are included in the course.
Personal support makes the difference
DGSA training is demanding. Candidates need time, guidance and individual feedback to build confidence with the Regulations and their practical application.
Roadsafe Europe limits class sizes so that every trainee can ask questions, work through difficult areas and receive meaningful support. This approach has helped us maintain an exceptional first-time pass rate.
We do not offer this intensive programme as online-only study. RID is a detailed and specialist subject, and we believe that classroom-based learning, discussion and direct tutor input offer the strongest preparation.
Support that continues after the course
We are confident in the quality of our training. If a candidate does not pass an examination, they may attend the next available course as a refresher at no additional training cost.
Once qualified, Roadsafe Europe also provides twelve months of complimentary guidance and support, helping newly qualified DGSAs build confidence as they begin to apply their knowledge professionally.
Add another transport mode to your qualification
Roadsafe Europe also offers DGSA training for road transport under ADR and inland waterways under ADN.
If you already hold a DGSA qualification for another mode and wish to add rail to your certificate, our RID conversion training provides a focused route to the additional mode examination.
Please note that the rail and inland-waterways examinations take place at the same time, so candidates can only sit one of those mode examinations on a single examination date.
