Dangerous Goods by Rail - RID Consignor

RID Consignor Training

Ensure Dangerous Goods leave your site correctly, safely and compliantly by rail

As a RID consignor, you have responsibilities before Dangerous Goods are handed over for rail transport. These may include classifying the goods, choosing suitable packaging, preparing the transport document, applying marks and labels, and making sure accurate information reaches the carrier and other parties in the transport chain.

Roadsafe Europe’s RID Consignor Training is a practical two-day course for businesses that prepare, offer, dispatch or arrange the carriage of Dangerous Goods by rail.

Delegates learn how to understand their consignor duties, identify risks in their processes and apply RID requirements in day-to-day operations. Training should match each person’s duties, and personnel must be trained before taking on dangerous-goods responsibilities. RID Chapter 1.3 · UK legislation on dangerous-goods training

Practical training for real consignor operations

Consignor compliance involves more than completing a transport document. Errors can arise at every stage, from product data and packaging decisions to missing marks, unsuitable loading arrangements or incomplete information passed to the carrier.

The course uses practical examples, exercises and realistic scenarios to help delegates spot where problems can occur and how to prevent them. The focus is on building a reliable process that works when staff, products, customers or carriers change.

What will your business gain?

After completing the course, delegates will be better able to:

• Understand the duties placed on a RID consignor

• Identify and verify dangerous-goods information

• Prepare compliant packages, marks, labels and documentation

• Recognise when exemptions may apply

• Communicate accurate information to carriers and other parties

• Identify gaps in dispatch and checking processes

• Reduce the risk of delays, rejected consignments, enforcement action and incidents

• Support a consistent and well-documented dangerous-goods compliance system

Is this a DGSA course?

No. This course is for people who carry out, manage or support consignor activities. It provides detailed, role-specific knowledge for operational teams and managers.

Businesses involved in dangerous-goods carriage may also need to appoint a Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser. The requirement depends on the activities and applicable exemptions. Roadsafe Europe can help you understand the requirements relevant to your operation and provide DGSA training and consultancy support where needed.
